Switching Majors in College...?

I'll agree with your mom on that one. Even though you might be good, it will be really hard to break through to get noticed, and certainly won't put food on your table. It would be better for you to get a stable job and focus on music as a hobby. If you are adamant about studying it, take it as a minor.
